Kelowna Apple Triathlon
This year will be the 23rd year for the Kelowna Apple Triathlon, just about 45 minutes from Big White. Every year Kelowna welcomes some of the most elite athletes from all over the world to the sunny Okanagan to compete in this rigorous event. Held over a weekend in August, this year it is August 20-21, this event draws crowds all over the city. Come down and cheer on the athletes as they compete for the crown. Also this year, the International Triathlon Union has awarded Kelowna a Continental cup Race. This will attract a larger field of Elite Athletes competing for points for their world ranking as well as a $10,000 USD prize purse, as well as the Kelowna race being the Canadian National Championships, with its $25,000 CAD prize purse.
Kelowna International Dragon Boat Festival
In September, the Okanagan plays host to the International Dragon Boat Festival. If you aren’t a racer yourself, there are events and entertainment all weekend and the festival is all ages so the family can have a great time. The race itself takes place about a 45 minute drive from Big White, on the water on the edge of downtown Kelowna, by both City Park and Waterfront Park, and the sunny beaches of Kelowna are more than welcoming to host you and your family all weekend long. Live music also plays a big part of the weekend with 54-40 and Colin James playing to the crowds over the past 2 years. Vendors, exhibitors and food concessions are available all weekend as well.

All events are family-oriented, suitable for all ages and tastes and free or affordable for the whole family. Parks Alive! provides a stage for the vibrant performers and artists not only of the Okanagan, but of the world, ensuring a variety of free entertainment not found anywhere else, all summer long! These series of events allow for you and your family to enjoy the beautiful Okanagan, just 45 minutes from Big White, while being entertained by world class performances.
Okanagan Wine Festival
Spring: May 2017
Fall: Sept 29-Oct 9 2016
The Okanagan Valley is world-renowned for its orchard country and every year you can attend one of the many 100 plus events throughout the Okanagan. This festival has been described as “one of Canada’s best small festivals” and it is growing all the time. This event is held twice a year for those enthusiasts who appreciate the taste of fabulous wine, great food and wonderful cultural events, once in the Spring, at the beginning of May, so that all can enjoy the beautiful sunny Okanagan early in the year, and again in the Fall. In fact, the Fall Okanagan Wine Festival is the only wine festival in North America that takes place during the heart of the grape harvest, a unique cultural experience.
Most of the tours of the Okanagan wineries are free, and offer tastings of some of the best wines in North America, surrounded by the picturesque Okanagan Valley. All of these events happen just a brisk 45 minute drive from Big White Mountain and for an event that is ranked in the top 100 events continuously by the American Bus Association, it is worth the visit!
